Here I am as a new TN resident!

Celebrating Mom’s 75th during Covid with Sunny in San Diego, CA.

My mother will tell you that I was always artistic. When I was five I doodled “Bert and Ernie” from Sesame Street which she has always cherished. To this day I believe that doodle depicts my best work capturing anything close to people. You see, I was infected at a young age (if not at birth) with an incurable obsession with horses. This affliction often wears off for most girls in their teenage years but not in my case. I have always known that my life would be crafted around this incredible animal and I have loved my journey leading me to this place.

I took fine art classes when I was a preteen and was accepted into AP Art in High School. This is where my formal training ends and I essentially shelve creating art for almost 15 years. I attended Cal Poly Pomona and received my BS in Agribusiness Management. Despite riding most of my life, I knew I was not destined for Olympic glory and thus set my sights on the retail side of the Equestrian industry. I found artistic outlets in visual merchandising and creating various social media content. I have had (and still have) a wonderful career in the horse world but when Covid shut our livelihoods down in early 2020 I found myself pulled back to painting.

I was living with my Mom in San Diego when Covid began. It was just the two of us and our “golden barnacle” Sunny, our golden retriever. My Mom was turning 75 and her birthday was falling right on Mother’s Day. Typically we spend the day enjoying an annual garden and art tour put on by a local gallery. Due to Covid, I was forced to come up with something else for the occasion. I decided I would host a “surprise” garden and art tour in our own backyard. I spent weeks creating some special pieces for my Mom of various places and of course, Sunny. I solicited my family members to have their kids send art as well. I cannot describe how special this day was for both my Mom and myself. This was the catalyst that launched me back into painting.

I spent the rest of 2020 creating various dog portraits as gifts for my co workers and friends and then I decided to paint something just for me. I did a watercolor portrait of my “heart horse” Bodhi, who I lost in 2013. The experience was incredibly emotional but ultimately rewarding. Now I live in Gallatin, TN and everyday I get to enjoy looking at that sweet soul who reminds me that “together we made the sun shine”. I have since found an artistic connection in capturing animals that have touched the lives of us simple humans. I look forward to this new endeavor and I am incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support that has brought me here!
